Storage Size for a 1-Bedroom Flat

A typical one-bedroom flat can vary dramatically depending on whether it contains a full sofa, wardrobes, appliances and bulky bedroom furniture. The MoveSize preset is simply a starting inventory that you can edit.

What is in the MoveSize preset?

This is a worked example from the current 1-bed flat inventory, not a fixed rule based on bedroom count. With furniture dismantling enabled where practical, the preset contains 45 individual item/box units across 4 household categories.

A one-bedroom flat preset is especially sensitive to whether the sofa, wardrobe and bed can be packed efficiently. The model therefore treats 75 sq ft as a practical rounded unit for this inventory, while regular retrieval space pushes the same belongings to 100 sq ft.

Model settings for this worked example: normal DIY packing, furniture dismantled where practical, and the same stacking/access assumptions published in MoveSize methodology. Preset calculation checked 6 September 2026.

What changes the result?

  • The sofa, armchair and bookcase are significant awkward-volume items in this preset.
  • One double bed, one two-door wardrobe and a chest of drawers make up most of the bedroom furniture.
  • The preset includes a fridge freezer and washing machine as dense, non-stackable appliances.
  • It includes 24 moving boxes plus two suitcases, so reducing the box count can materially change the result.
  • If your flat is furnished more lightly—or has built-in storage rather than freestanding furniture—edit the preset before using the estimate.

Why not choose from the property size alone?

A one-bedroom label does not reveal whether the flat has a full sofa, freestanding wardrobe, appliances, balcony contents or only minimal furniture. The preset is useful because you can see and edit those assumptions rather than accepting a bedroom-to-storage lookup table.
